BADMARSH & SHRI - DANCING DRUMS Outcaste Records1998
This was the first product of a highly successful collaboration between Shri and Dj Badmarsh. Dancing Drums is an album that brought the aspects of Drum & Bass, Breakbeat, Indian classical, Dub and funk, of the duo to the fore and went on to put both Shri and Badmarsh firmly onto the map.
"We wanted to make music that moved you on the dancefloor as well as at home. Everything had to be emotive, whether it made you angry or made you swoon. But it also had to funk. We wanted it to be about feeling rather than thinking - that was our vision,"
SHRI - DRUM THE BASS Outcaste Records 1996
This was Shri’s first expression in the west. It is about his
experience of India revisited in a studio in South London.
‘The ideas and concepts stem from my travels through India, mostly in trains (second class). These journeys, both physical and mental, have made me love the country, its people and its ideas as well as paradoxically feeling utter disgust towards many attitudes and all the spirituality for sale at 69p an ounce.’
The album is a collage of all these contradictory elements all at once and is an evocation of a definite modern Indian texture.
